On Good Friday (6/4/2012), Twiggy, at this time, by name & not by stature... gave birth to 8, yes 8 ! beautiful, healthy & even-sized puppies, they just kept coming !!!!! 6 girls at first, & then the 2 boys.
Thanks & congratulations to the father too.... Echo (Remony Runrig) a lovely dog, (who has done so well in lots of shows including a 4th in his Class at Crufts this year), by courtesy of his owner Anne Gregory.

GREAT 'GRETTE' with 6 GREETINGS for the New Year...... - 9th Jan 2012
GRETTE gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies on Saturday 7th January'12 putting last year's problems to memory. Not the first puppies of 2012, that Brae the Newfoundland edged us out again when she had 8 puppies on the 3rd January, but Grette's are arguably the cutest.
Our Special Thanks  go to Liz & her 'team' at Flett & Carmichael, (Grette's gynaecologists), for all the Special Care, Attention & TLC given to Grette, Jean & other interested parties...
The 3 boys & 3 girls are all looking beautifully healthy & keeping Mum busy, but she appears to be thriving on all the attention.....

PUPPY UPDATE.....14th Dec'11

Haggis's 6 healthy 'bruisers' are growing from strength to strength... sadly her two smallest pups lost their fight.
On a Happier note, Grette has been confirmed as being in pup, & the betting is on for her having the first puppies of 2012..... because of her difficulties last time, she is being wrapped in cotton-wool & closely monitored.

DYLAN has been busy.....

Since the shows, Dylan has been a busy Border.... entertaining a number of  'ladies'..... including 'Haggis' a lovely bitch from Shetland, who has been confirmed to be awaiting the patter of tiny paws.... an early Christmas present for her owner Catriona?  Watch this space for further developments...12/11/2011

TOFFEE GOES SOUTH.....
I took TOFFEE (Cubbieroobu's Wyre Wind Lass), the last of TWIGGY'S  pups, to her new home with Maureen in Co Durham.... but not before she won 4th place in her puppy class at the Midland Counties Championship Show at Stafford. The judge was very complimentary about her coat, & I was really delighted with the result, bearing in mind this was her first show; the first show for a Cubbieroobu Border; & that she was only one place away from qualifying for Crufts 2012....
A really brilliant Day. Maureen has more opportunity to enter other shows, & has told me she's booked into a couple already... so watch this space..... Meanwhile, Toffee is settling into her new home with other Borders, Pugs, & her personal body-guard, Bailey, a  B I G  German Shepherd.....

DOUNBY & COUNTY SHOWS - 2011
Dylan
had the honour of being on the front cover of the Dounby 2011 Show Schedule. He was recognised wherever he went.....& it was a real pleasure talking to so many folk about Border Terriers.....
He was awarded Reserve Best in Show, his 2010 title going to BRAE, a lovely Newfoundland bitch, from Stromness.
Dylan & Brae were head to head again at the larger County Show, with dogs entered from all over Orkney. Dylan won his Terrier Class - with 20 entries, (he was 3rd in 2010), & pipped to Best in Show by Brae, yet again... We are certainly 'chuffed' at having achieved Reserve Best in Show at both shows in 2011. With Gretta doing so well at the East Mainland it's been a good year all around.
As can be seen in the 2nd photo, Dylan appears to be eyeing Brae up..... & perhaps....pondering on 2012.....with a number of Twiggy's Cubbieroobu pups possibly entering...-

Four of the pups will remain in Orkney, with 'Toffee' going south to Co Durham later this year.

Good Luck to Pat, Tommy & 'Maisie'; Erika & 'Eddy'; Hilary, Mark, Alice & 'Harvey' , & Jenny & 'Scratch'.

Welcome to my world of Border Terriers...
Home is a 100 acre farm on a small Orkney island with rare-breed pigs, sheep, cattle & poultry.
The 12th century 'Cubbie Roo's' Castle, a stone-built Viking stronghold, overlooks us.
My involvement with Borders started with sadness when I ran over my old Jack-Russell 'Pip'....
'Ollie', my other dog, a German Shepherd Cross, was pining away for his pal so I needed to bring home another small dog. There were a number of Jack-Russels available locally, but I just couldn't bring myself to having a replacement 'Pip'.
I looked for a small rescue dog, nothing, only greyhounds & a very large Rottweiler - not the potentially ideal pal for 'Ollie'. There were no small dogs to be found, puppies or young dogs.
Orkney seemed deprived of breeders of small dogs.
During a chat to my special friend Jean about the lack of small dog breeds around Orkney, she suggested I look at Cairns & Border Terriers. Both being small hardy dogs suitable for 'Island' life.
I then looked further afield on the internet & found an abundance of puppies of every known breed, (& a few unknown to me), but all a large stretch of water & many miles away.....
A few phone calls later, I found in Co Durham my future friend Maureen & her Borders & Pugs. It was a happy day indeed when I chose my 'Dylan'....
Oh yes.. & my friend Jean she chose to get 'Grette' as a future Border partner for 'Dylan', from a different breeder, who just happened to be in the same village Dylan was coming from. A match made in heaven ?
Watch this space...or should I say this website ...

Grette,
is Dylan's intended & she is almost as frequent a visitor to my island home as Dylan is to Jean's more 'suburban' mainland home. She therefore has a gallery of her own photos on this site. She has been shown at various venues & she was the top bitch at the East Mainland Show, & enjoys showing off her Agility & Obedience skills.

Twiggy, a half-sister to Dylan, joined our Border 'family' late summer of 2010. Her temperament being very similar to Dylan's & her laid-back attitude even more so..... upon seeing her relatively slim, & long eye-lashes reminded me of the 1960's icon...& hence the name Twiggy stuck.
Her vermin tracking skills became very apparent when she spent 5 hours, stuck under an abandoned car refusing any help, (despite concerns for her safety); until she had despatched the offending rodent. She then came home, barked to be let in, ate her tea, curled up to sleep in her bed as if nothing had happened. Nothing seems to worry her. Well, not for long. She had never seen stairs before her maiden voyage to Aberdeen & visit to the on-board kennels, but she soon dealt with them. Cars, trains, lifts, cycles, even hordes of Scots & Irish Rugby supporters on Edinburgh railway station didn't phase her.....
